Bombs at the ready to be loaded. Note the remote belly turret. Note the bulge
on the belly through which the gunner observed through a periscope. The first
113 B-17Es had this turret arrangement. This caused gunners to experience
cases of extreme vertigo and nausea. Because of this, this remote turret was soon
replaced by the Sperry ball turret. Ship name: "Jungle Jim" of the 9thBS. Flown
to India by Capt. Willard Fountain. Photo taken at Allahabad, India, Jan 1942.
