Comments from Mark:
This plane was originally flown by my grandfather, Capt. Fred M. Key. He picked it up at Boeing Plant #2 in December, 1941. On January 1, 1942 he flew the plane from McDill Field to Singosari, Java, where the plane and it's crew were assigned to the 19th Bomb Group (H), 93rd Squadron.
Capt. Key logged over 750 combat hours in this plane, before he was transferred to the 4th Air Depot Group in April 1942.
The photo was taken in late 1943 by Boeing Engineer Fred Stolz, after the nose art was changed to "Guinea Pig". This photo and caption was published in Boeing News, Vol. 3, No. 9, on March 1, 1944.
Note that the original name of the plane was "Ole Miss II", after the plane that Fred Key and his brother Al (also with 19th B.G.) used to set a world's record endurance flight of 653 hrs in July, 1935 (this plane is now in Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C.).
