Information from Russ: This picture was taken
late in 1943 - Nov or Dec - before we departed for India. Lt Ready was killed in action when a plane he was
testing after repairs blew up on the runway. SGT Winkler, SGT Walters and me were selected to fly with Capt Bailey
and Colonel Dodson, Group CO on the railroad
mission 5 Apr 1944. Winkler got hit over the target and died almost immediately. Walters and I survived our crash
landing in the Bay of Bengal. The entire crew
was awarded the Purple Heart.
